Sapa Overview

Those who believe that Vietnam is only attractive with its beach destinations with white sandbanks or crystal clear water is totally wrong, because of the fact that highland area, particularly in the Northwest Territory is not less allured than the Eastern coastal area. Among several mysterious and charming mountainous destinations, Sapa is not only one of the most popular, but also most unique and mesmerized locations that could not be found elsewhere in Vietnam.

The town is situated about 38 km from Lao Cai City and 380km from the capital of Vietnam – Hanoi. Most of travelers choose to travel to Sapa by tourism train, which takes about 9 hours from Hanoi to Lao Cai Station, before taking another 1 hour driving on hill roads to Sapa town at elevation of 1,600m above the sea. On the way to the highland place are magnificent sceneries with streams and lush valley, along with atmosphere getting fresher but also colder degree by degree.

Became a tourism destination at the beginning of 20th century when French colonist started to construct the very first hotels and tourism services here, Sapa today is a must-go locations on most of international traveler’s trips to Vietnam. Tourism activities in this town is the mixture of both natural and artificial elements. Travelers will definitely surprise and admire the magnificent of Hoang Lien Son Mountain Range, MuongHoa Valley with rice terrace fields or lush pine or bamboo tree, but zooming into these natural attractions are hill villages of tribal races, including Dzao, H’Mong or Giay, where tourists are able to learn how diversity culture and attractions of local ethnic communities, as well as experience the typical homestay that makes them never forget.
